Kastner Cup Vintage Race
Watkins Glen, NY
September 3-7, 2008

Classic Motorsports magazine presents the Kastner Cup Vintage Race!

It's like a planetary alignment for Triumph fans, only way cooler, since you can actually see it:  Hundreds of historic Triumphs from around the globe are converging on Watkins Glen September 3-7 for the Kastner Cup Vintage Race, presented by Classic Motorsports magazine and Moss Motors.

Among the luminaries will be the famed Group 44 factory race cars, the first production Triumph sports car, and - of course - Kas Kastner, the legendary Triumph tuner, racer and head of the North American Triumph Competition Department.

It's all part of the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association's U.S. Vintage Grand Prix, the Grand Prix the largest vintage race weekend in the east.  Kastner will present the Kastner Cup to the racer who best embodies the spirit of the marque and the event for the award.  He'll also be on hand to assist racers and talk to fans of the marque.

TS1, a 1953 TR2 that holds the distinction of being the first production Triumph sports car off the line, will also be there.
Joe Richards, who painstakingly restored TS1 to its historic original specs, will be honored by Friends of Triumph, the North America-based group of Triumph racers and race fans.  (See additional information below.)

Triumph enthusiasts and racers will also be welcomed into the Friends of Triumph Hospitality Tent and into the town of Watkins Glen, where the local  hamber of Commerce organizes the yearly Grand Prix Festival on Friday.

Triumph enthusiasts have an opportunity to enter in a Triumph-only road rally, and selected SVRA race cars will make a trip down from the track, park on display, and then take parade laps of the original 6.6 mile street circuit.

For more information on this amazing weekend of vintage and historic racing go to ClassicMotorsports.net/kastner-cup or contact Tim Baxter at baxter@classicmotorsports.net.

Friends of Triumph to Honor Joe and Dottie Richards

In 1980 Joe Richards purchased TR2  TS1 LO and subsequently spent 18 years of his life meticulously restoring the first TR2. Targeted by the UK at the North America market, it featured LHD and Overdrive.

This merits our attention and respect, as Joe and his family preserved an  important part of our Triumph Racing Heritage.

The TR2 was the first low cost performance sports car that enabled the rapid growth of our sport in North America.  Hill, Gurney, Kastner, and many more talented racers started their careers with TR2s and TR3s.

Joe and Dottie have agreed to join us in the paddock with the number one TR2 on display. They will also be participating in activities in the Village of Watkins Glen.

FOT Robert Smith will be working with the Richards for the transport and display of the TR2 TS1 LO and coordinating their activities.

Press releases, on this and other FOT activities will be forthcoming by one of FOT's sponsors, Classic Motorsports magazine.

In the meantime, please review the following link that contains pictures of how the UK Honored the Richards in 2003 for the 50th Anniversary of the marque.

TRA JUDGING STANDARDS AND RESTORATION GUIDELINES
NOW AVAILABLE ON-LINE, AT NO CHARGE!

Dear TRA Members:

During TRA 2004, the TRA membership voted to make the Judging Standards and Restoration Guidelines Manual available via the website to all TRA members as well as other Triumph TR2-3 enthusiasts.  The PDF file is the current TRA Guide and can be downloaded through this website (1 Mb).  Printed copies will no longer be available for purchase.  (However, printed copies of the TR4 manual will continue to be available via orders to Lou.)

Since 1993, about 450 of the TR2/3 manuals have been sold. Sales volume has tapered off to a dozen or so a year the past few years.  The light volume makes the production and distribution of the manual

increasingly costly.  On the other hand, the decision to make the manual available on-line will allow

members who purchased years ago to access the most recent version.  Also hopefully, new addenda will be encouraged if some of the pain associated with the production are removed.

Enjoy, everyone!!!

John Gabel

TRA Chief Judge
